Visualisations for a tight mind

Sometimes, my mind becomes tight. If I sit for meditation then, my mind cannot relax and go deeper. These visualisations help.

The first:
  1. Close your eyes, gently
  2. Become aware of the space in the room (and objects in it if you like - details don't matter)
  3. Expand your awareness to the entire floor of the building
  4. Then to awareness of the entire building
  5. ...of the neighbourhood
  6. ...of the city
  7. ...of the state
  8. ... continue through increasingly larger political divisions as you wish ... 
  9. ...of the entire earth
  10. ...of the solar system
  11. ...of the Milky Way galaxy
  12. ...of the universe
Another one:

  1. Close your eyes, gently
  2. Think of a sea
  3. Its calm, motionless, blue surface
  4. Stretching from horizon to horizon
  5. A cloudless blue sky above the sea
  6. A perfect hemisphere
  7. Let your awareness expand and cover both sea and sky
